Did you know that approximately 20% of adolescents aged 13-18 experience a mental health disorder in a given year? That means 1 in 5 adolescents may be affected by a mental health condition, according to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH).
In observance of World Mental Health Day, Marsh McLennan Agency is hosting a special virtual event designed to facilitate a conversation around mental health in adolescents and the crucial stages of development surrounding teen physical, emotional, and social health.
As part of this event, we have brought together a panel of specialists, including Murphy Holderness, National Education Practice Group Leader, and Bobbie Victory, Health Management Consultant Manager. They will offer insights into:
Current student school withdrawal trends and their correlation with mental health among adolescents
The financial implications of mental health and their impact on overall business operations
Mental health resources and solutions to support educational institutions
Also joining us will be Wiley Smith, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, who will bring a unique perspective as he currently provides weekly mental health services in a pediatric setting. Wiley will speak to the current behavioral health issues we are seeing in this population, along with how school personnel, medical providers and behavioral health clinicians can work together in addressing mental health issues in children and adolescents.
While the event is targeted specifically towards education institutions, all interested individuals are welcome to attend. Together, let's empower the next generation with the tools and resources they need to thrive!
